Ok la, you all know I'm still in Malaysia right? But still, I wanna share a bit la on my orientation at least xD. During the orientation week, I found out that my class comprises of many awesome debaters, people who stood out all their high school and college lives. It's ok, I won't be beaten down just because I wasn't as bright as they were. Everyone shines differently, I know that someday I'll find the light that belongs to me.

Also, my lecturers were all very intimidating, it's good in a way, you know how Malaysian students has been trained to be passive and I can safely say that, we have been spoonfed all our primary and secondary schools lives. Let me assure you, there's no such thing anymore in university, at least not in Taylor's Law School/University of Reading. Basically, it's all about working in a team/group and also all the hardwork one is willing to put in.

It's a program which trains all of us law students to be vocal, competitive, all-rounded and most importantly, to be able to survive in the future. There are many law graduates nowadays, and everyone is just about the same, what makes them different is their ability to shine in their own ways, and I believe that's what the employer sees in a potential candidate.

Nowadays, it's not all about attending classes, doing assignments and cramming for exams anymore, no more the life of a geek. We are also required to be active in clubs and societies ( Law Society, Mooting, Lexicon Newsletter & Community Service in my case). Well, like what Mr. Gerald from the LASC team said, it's better to be involved in one club and contribute as best as we can, rather than be what majority did in high school, that is to join everything and be active in nothing.

I'm not so sure about which to join though, I myself love to write, and I used to be in Leo Club, those were the days where we would go around visiting Orphanage/Old Folks Home. Sorry, it was a sudden pang of nostalgia that stroke me. Now, I really miss high school :(. Miss those days I used to spend with my friends who are now basically scattered all over the world BUT Malaysia :(.

Today marks the end of the Orientation week, basically everything were already explained by the lecturers, my classmates were all holding books already (including me of course), but I didn't get the one that's most recommended though. It's ok because everything about law is still very new to me, I'll just start reading and get used to the idea of it :).

I'm getting to know everyone in the course, and some seniors greeted us today. I also found out a lot about other seniors who totally shone during their years with Taylor's. Like what one of them said, you can be a queen of anything, and you can also be a conqueror. Just by hearing about what she said, I'm determined to conquer my fear in university. After all, university does not encourage passiveness, it's all about opening up, taking on challenges and overcome yourself.

Hmm, I think it's enough for now, I better get back to reading the interesting case report I was reading, I'm taking a lot of time in reading it, because everything is just so new and so formal. I'm a slow reader :X

Hello!!

My name here is 'Amy', because, first they can't pronounce Wei Wen properly, and second they can't remember it.

Warwick has A LOT of Malaysians. There was this 52 group student, and they're all from JPA/KPMG. Warwick is in the middle of nowhere, and the fast food stalls (MacD/Pizza Hut/KFC) are all a 5 min bus ride away. But it has lots of animals here, especially ducks, squirrels and geese. People here drink, drink and drink everyday. My impression of their daily routine is: Wake up, drink milk from carton, go out, study, lepak around, study, sport, come back for instant pizza as dinner, and get wasted (aka getting drunk).

By the way, I'm taking up Spanish classes! Si Si?? Lol. Was choosing between Japanese and Spanish, but since Malaysia offers lots of Japanese classes, so I thought Spanish would be more suitable. 160 pounds for 3 terms (30 weeks), 2 hours lesson.

So yeah. First class of Politics was interesting, but requires lots and lots of reading.

So far, have not hung out with the locals here. But my flat mates are really nice, and some of them come from Mauritius, Kazakhstan, Singapore, China, Pakistan (who destroyed the oven and microwave, causing two fire alarms. Cleaner said he put polystyrene plate into the oven. Actually not suppose to put any plastics inside the microwave) and 3 locals (2 guys and 1 girl. The guys are really friendly, but rarely see the girl around.)

Oh, we have a kitchen representative. And if the kitchen is too untidy, we'll get charged 50 pounds, and it would subsequently increase by 50 everytime they charge.

Really miss Malaysia food now. T.T Especially RM5 Madam Joyce Zhak Fan. Here, it's instant pizza/pasta/lasagna/noodles.

And really miss you guys too. =')

HI GUYS! COMING STRAIGHT TO YOU FROM CANTERBURY IS THE ONE, THE ONLY, THE MAGNIFICENT and kinda cute LOO LIK HO!!!! I just wanted to post something here since everyone is contributing to the blog...I hope all of you are doing fine and are happy. By the way, just updating bout my life in the UK. THE WEATHER IS AWESOME! i really love it here now, though i know i will be cursing the weather in about 2 months time. Somehow making friends isn't going so well though. I've only made 6 friends in my whole two weeks here. Becoming a real loner d. ): Cooking is awesome though (mainly because you get to eat whatever you want whenever you want to). Another awesome thing is of course, the crazy download speeds. I don't know how I will be able to adapt to the download speeds back in Malaysia when i return because there is just too huge a difference. I can download shows in one minute which I would take 1 hour to download back home. UK is awesome (: The feeling of freedom is just amazing. I can do whatever I want now. So I'm gonna make the best of my time here. You guys should so totally come to the UK if you can. (or if you're finance situation allow you to) Alright gotta do my assignment now so I'll be signing off. Till later guys. I really miss you all. ):

- it's monsoon now the themepark would most probably covered by fog, they'll close the themepark down
- December is the peak month where the hotel are charging their rooms at higher rate

Pros: -It's an exotic place to visit, it has a rather splendid cinematic and you can KLCC shinning at night
-Last time I went there, there was loads of chicks there (but they seems really high class though)

Cons: -It's is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO expensive and we will only spend one night there.
-the parking is RM5 in Traders' Hotel

A trip down to memory lane

In year 1998, Anwar was found guilty and sent to jail for six years and seven months whereas in any other country the court would have thrown the case out without even requiring him to defend himself in a trial. In other words, in any other country the trial would not have gone on but instead Anwar would have been discharged without the defence being called.

Let us first see what was revealed in the trial and then in part 2 we shall look at the other issues:

1. The police admitted that no police report was ever made against Anwar and that the basis for launching the prosecution were unfounded rumours and the contents of a book.

2. The alleged victim, Azizan, had been ‘turned over’ to say that Anwar sodomised him (the term used for ‘coercing’) - which is the ‘normal’ practice of the Malaysian Police, the court was told.

3. The Special Branch had earlier sent the Prime Minister a report saying that the allegations against Anwar are lies and fabricated by conspirators trying to bring Anwar down.

4. The alleged sodomy act was supposed to have occurred ‘one day in the month of May 1994’. The police testified that this date was based on the information obtained during the interrogation of the ‘victim’, and this was what the first charge read.

5. The so-called victim then testified that the sodomy act never occurred after May 1992, only before that, so the ‘May 1994’ charge suddenly became defective. The charge was then changed to ‘May 1992’ to fit this testimony while ‘typographical error’ was cited as the reason for the amendment to the charge.

6. Anwar then file his Notice of Alibi proving that in May 1992 the Tivoli Villa, the alleged scene of the crime, was still under construction and was not completed yet, so it could not have happened at that time, date and place in question.

7. The ‘victim’ was then interrogated a second time to ‘help him remember the correct date’. After he ‘remembered’ the ‘correct date’, the charges were then, again, amended to ‘one day between 1 January 1993 and 31 March 1993’.

8. When the defence argued that the law requires the charge to specify, precisely, the time, date and place of the alleged crime, and when Anwar managed to provide an alibi for the entire 90 days from 1 January to 31 March 1993 to prove he was never at the scene of the crime, the prosecution argued that ‘from time immemorial, dates have never been important’. Though they cannot pinpoint the precise time and date the alleged crime was supposed to have occurred, argued the prosecution, this does not matter as long as they can pinpoint the place.

9. The trial judge would interview the defence before any witnesses are called to find out what they will be testifying. The judge would then rule those defence witnesses irrelevant and would not allow them to be called.

10. Halfway through the defence witnesses giving their testimony, the trial judge would cut them off and dismiss them without allowing them to complete their testimony.

11. The trial judge would rule certain evidence not relevant and would expunge them from the records whenever the prosecution was not able to rebut this testimony and it looked like it would damage the prosecution’s case.

12. In a sex crime, the sole testimony of the alleged victim is not sufficient but corroboration is required. In the case against Anwar, however, there was no corroboration other than the sole testimony of the alleged victim.

13. When the defence asked that the so-called victim be sent for a medical examination to determine whether he had indeed been sodomised – as there was still time to do so – the prosecution refused, saying that a medical examination is not conclusive anyway.

14. Anwar’s alleged partner-in-crime, his adopted brother Sukma, who was jointly-charged with him - and earlier sent to jail for six months for ‘allowing Anwar to sodomise him’ - was examined by a doctor, Dr Zahari Noor, who testified that he found no evidence he was ever sodomised. In fact, he suffers from piles due to an extremely small anal passage so it would have been impossible for Anwar to have sodomised him – he had to be operated upon to widen his anal passage so that he could move his bowels. (Anwar’s adopted brother was convicted and jailed on the strength of his ‘confession’ that was obtained under police torture).

15. Witnesses came to court to testify that various people in high places had bribed the so-called victim and his co-conspirator to fabricate evidence against Anwar. However, the prosecution refused to call these people to court to rebut or confirm this allegation, and when the defence tried to subpoena them instead, the court would not allow it to do so. The judge then ruled the testimony of these witnesses as ‘hearsay’ - since it was never confirmed or denied - and refused to consider it.

16. The prosecution witnesses contradicted themselves and changed their testimonies all along the way. The court, however, ruled that though they may have been inconsistent, ‘these inconsistencies have been explained’ and the court was satisfied. The court also said that no one human can be expected to be 100% consistent and that everyone, however honest and truthful he may be, will be inconsistent.

17. A prominent lawyer and one-time Malaysian Bar Council Chairman, Manjeet Singh Dhillon, testified and signed a Statutory Declaration alleging that the Attorney-General and the Chief Prosecutor had blackmailed his client with the death sentence unless he (the client) testified that he had procured women for Anwar. No action was taken against them and they continued to head the prosecution against Anwar. No action was taken against the lawyer for ‘malicious lies’ either, so the allegation remains undisputed.

He's undeniably black and has very less hair (on the head though). His favourite quote is 'I will kill you' in a very eccentric accent. I quite like his eyes when they go BiiIIiiG. He loves racist jokes especially when the spears are pointed at him. He has a very pathetic attitude of sucking his bag when he doesn't understand shit teachers teaching. (Noted by EngWee, wish I had the picture) he is in love with Jian Wen, our class's twat.

Physics Lab Timetable!

Hi, guys!

As you all know, physics practical is next Tuesday, 3/11/2009. And here's our timetable.

All the best!

Oh, since we're on about Physics Practical, here are a few things to remember:

1) Uncertainty for time is 0.2/0.1; for length, is 0.1cm if you're taking two readings to count the measurement, like from 0.00cm to 19.00cm. Voltmeter, depends on its division, if 1 division is 2V, uncertainty is 1V then. Same goes for ammeter.

2) Raw data normally 3 s.f, or follow the uncertainty decimal point. If raw data is 3 s.f, then calculated value should also be 3 s.f.

3) If the graph is a straight line, minimum 6 readings; if it's a curve, minimum 8 readings.

4)In the table, recording the data, please remember to write the unit beside the quantity. For Eg. T/s, l/m, F/N

5)Always remember to take 2 readings, and get their average during taking of measurements.

6) If you have no idea what to put in the limitation, please remember there's always this answer:
Two sets of readings is not enough to support the theory/conclusion.

Improvement: More sets of reading should be taken and an appropriate graph should be plotted.

7) Graph should be at least 3 quarter of the page.

8) When gradient is calculated, please draw a big triangle on the graph. The bigger, the better.
